2008 Federal Budget:
Promises Honoured, Opportunities Missed
The Council of Australian Postgraduate Associations (CAPA) has responded positively to measures announced today in the 2008-2009 Federal Budget, however a number of missed opportunities have marred an otherwise auspicious start on the road to an education revolution.
The Federal Government has honoured its election promise to double the number of Australian Postgraduate Awards (APAs) between now and 2012, involving expenditure of $209M over four years, and to introduce the Future Fellowships scheme, involving $326M over four years, offering better opportunities and support for early and mid-career researchers.
Travel Concession: Are You Eligible for a Health Care Card?
Students studying graduate courses are unfortunately not eligible for a Public Transport Student Concession Card. However, if you are a local graduate student you may be eligible for a Health Care Card, which also qualifies you to buy transport tickets at concession prices.

Discussion paper opens way to address impact of VSU
The Council of Australian Graduate Associations (CAPA) has welcomed the release of the Federal Government's discussion paper on the impact of the former government's "VSU" legislation.
"The discussion paper opens the way for the new government to stand by its commitment to ensuring quality student services and representation on campus," 2008 CAPA President Nigel Palmer said.
